The theme of Mobile World Congress 2018 is “Creating a Better Future” and so far the event hasn’t disappointed. Whether it’s new technology or looking into improvements for the future, there have been numerous developments all geared to making customers’ lives easier.
Even before the conference opened its doors we were seeing key manufacturers launching new devices.
Samsung held the biggest mobile launch of the year so far at their “Unpacked” event which revealed the Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus models. There is a similar design to last year with a dual-aperture camera and improved audio capabilities. Prices have been steadily increasing with the S9 £50-£70 more expensive than the S8.
At the opposite end of the pricing spectrum there have been some lower budget devices unveiled including Google’s decision to launch the first Android Go smartphone containing a budget operating system (OS) for low-end devices.
Nokia has continued to release new devices choosing to revamp the 8110 with the iconic slider which now has built in 4G for a faster connection. They have also used the congress to reveal their new flagship device, the Sirocco 8.
Huawei has released the new MateBook X Pro & MediaPad. The MateBook X Pro is a stylish laptop and the world’s first full view touch screen notebook with a recessed camera to combat any privacy concerns.
With new devices also released by Sony, Land Rover and a new concept phone from Vivo there has never been more choice for the customer.
It’s not just about new devices – as always there’s been lots of motivating keynote speeches around important topics for the future. A high percentage of internet interaction is now coming from mobiles compared to desktop. With security threats across the connected device eco-system increasing every month, brands are working hard to develop greater protection.
Net neutrality has also been a hot topic with governments and brands working together to provide fair and consistent internet connections for everyone.
In summary there has been a definite evolution of devices with a look to the future. Watch this space for our full event review…
